- When I read the news that ICQ was shutted down 5 months ago, it was a
good news to see that Mail.ru put it out of misery, like it's correct
way. Overall, ICQ was like a major thing and popular instant messenger
from the 90s. I even tried to try it myself when I was a kid and it was
like surreal and unknown world of internet. As I grown up I wished there
was alternative for it and suprisingly there is. Jabber is similar to
ICQ and it's also like XMP. Seems to be more open, decentralized and
even compatible to the games too. But with specific stuff and some
Jabbers supports. And I decided to use it as my main messenger, just
because it has similar vibe of ICQ. When I saw it
I assumed it was a some sort of modern alternative of Discord. But it's
not, it's a lot older and it's from 1999. So I registered one of the
Jabbers and took a client called Miranda NG. And man, it looks awesome.
It has customization to the client and as well the sounds. Wonder in the
future if we'll return back to the early 2000s era to use old messengers
like Jabber, to re-experience the old school messengers and maybe use it
for young generations as the safe way to communicate, before they'll
advance to adulthood. |
